The person behind the projects: how I think, how I work and what drives me.
I'm Joran, a 21-year-old Interactive Media Development student based in Ghent. I've always been drawn to understanding how things work and wanting to build them myself. Interactive Media Development turned out to be the field where both of those things come together.
It took some time to find my place in my studies. The first year and a half was mostly coding and design, and although I can do both, neither is where my strengths truly lie. That changed in my second year when we started building our first installation. Working at the intersection of realtime software, physical making and system thinking felt natural in a way that other parts of the course hadn't.
Since then I've taken on a consistent role in every installation project: making sure ideas are actually feasible, leading the technical direction, designing and building the physical constructions, and developing the realtime software. I set the bar high on purpose. I want to deliver something I'm genuinely proud of.

When I have an idea, I want to start building immediately. Whether it's a generative star field in TouchDesigner, a boat navigating a procedurally generated river in Unreal Engine, or a physical construction I'm designing in Blender, I'll spend hours on it without noticing because I actually enjoy the process.
Before anything gets built, I think through the full system: how the parts connect, where cables run, when a 3D printed component makes more sense than a bought one, how a visitor moves through the space. Getting that right is what makes everything else fall into place.
My goal is to work in a professional team on something truly large-scale, the kind of project where every person brings their best.
My health matters to me. I train regularly, eat well and try to stay active.
I have my own 3D printer and regularly design and print parts, sometimes for projects, sometimes just to make something.
I love working with my hands and building things from scratch. I have done renovations at home and even built a full extension to our garden shed together with a friend and my father, complete with a couch and a TV.
I closely follow topics like science, engineering, space and climate. I watch videos and read about these things every day out of genuine curiosity. I love understanding how things work and how they are built.
I love animals and have a lot of animals at home.
I set up and maintain my own home server using an old laptop.
If you have an idea, feel free to reach out.
